The Next Perfect Trade A Magic Sword of Necessity Alex Gurevich Books Reviews

  • "The Next Perfect Trade A Magic Sword of Necessity" by Alex Gurevich is deeply engaging with powerful insights for any professional trader or investor. The book is well written and flows very well; the content is dense but accessible. I am surprised how much the author has revealed about his strategy, pointing out charts and spreads that are very valuable. This is certainly a must have book for traders, especially for rate and currency traders.
I have been trading professionally and profitably for over a decade and have read many books on trading. This is definitely one of my top books which I will be reading many times. There are actionable insights in the book that will help any trader to improve or develop a trading strategy. The book is based on strategic thinking rather than some short term gimmick. I would highly recommend this book for professional traders. The principles outlined in this book are hard to find elsewhere.
  • I'm a former hedge fund PM who trades discretionary macro for my own account. Anyone who's serious about trading macro (and you'd better be serious if you want to play this game) could benefit from this book and there aren't many books I can say that of (Drobny books, Alchemy of Finance, the Wizards book). I didn't read this and think, "I'm going to do what this guy does." IMO, everyone has their own style to develop and Gurevich's is his own, but there were ideas in his book that helped me work through some issues I had with my own approach. For that it was very useful.
  • The timing of this book could not be better, bringing to light one of the particularly bright minds that inhabit the world of global macro and the humility required to be successful.

I am not a mathematician and never considered myself to be very bright, but have always recognized that the world of investing, in all of its vastness, will provide you with patterns and scenarios that are eminently rational and profitable, If you are willing to expand your horizons to look for them. Finding the perfect trade may well be elusive to many, but Alex's insight provides even the less experienced with the understanding that it is possible, once the short term noise is reduced and focus on the overriding longer term trend. It may not happen as often as we like, but over time, utilizing the criteria that Alex offers in the book you will improve your odds.

Buy it, read it, do your homework and profit from it.
  • This groundbreaking book presents a unique, efficient framework to navigate the complex world of leveraged finance and to formulate optimal trading strategies. I marvel at the simplicity but sound reasoning behind each strategy. The book gets the point across without being distracted by technical details as books involving fixed income often fail to avoid. The flow of the book follows the logical sequence of a thought process, making it easier to follow. Any reader, beginners or veterans alike, should find the book enriching their knowledge of leveraged finance. In particular, I like the pendulum analogy, the forest and tree dilemma, the idiot factor, coin flip and stop loss logic... how familiar all these things sound and yet how often we get tripped and fail to realize. This book teaches reader how to find order in chaos, how to use simple logical reasoning to emerge above the chaos and to optimize strategies that work in multiple scenarios. This book refreshes minds, opens up new perspectives and promotes intellectual engagement. A must read for anyone aspiring to establish a career in the dynamic world of macro trading.
  • i am a retail investor with no formal business training. but i am obsessed with understanding financial markets. this book was fascinating, even if i did not understand some sections
  • Is the book well written? Yes. Did I like the book? Yes. Is the information in the book relevant? Yes. Is the information in the book applicable for the majority of the retail investor pubic? No. Is the information in this book useful for the retail investor in general? …hum...hard to say.
  • I have been looking for a book that goes into details of macro trading. What I meant was the real examples and logics behind each trade, not just the theory or framework. I have already read a few books, but this book is by far one of the best, especially for FX and interest rate instruments.
  • If you're interested in trading, this is an exceptionally fine text, full of useful and even witty observations by the author. The printed edition is, unfortunately, exceptionally poor (a) the closely spaced sans serif font is difficult to read, and (b) the many diagrams, which were evidently intended to be in color, are all in a dim gray. It's like reading a printout of the author's blog. So, while his thoughts and insights are worthwhile, the presentation makes them less pleasantly accessible in a printed text than one would hope. Probably this is better in a digital format.
[Update] I want to emphasize that this really is a worthwhile book -- I'm complaining about the print edition specifically, not about the content. Other reviewers have covered its virtues and I don't disagree.
