- I bought this one along with the first and third novels. As he states, these are novels intended for a teenager public and as such are not as deep nor as complex as La sombra del viento. Character descriptions are not so developed and the book feels rushed into the closing chapters, but it's understandable because again, were written for teenagers. But yes, you can feel Zafón here from the first lines and for those who enjoy his writing skills as I do that's quite enough. By the way, for those of you who felt a little lost with El juego del Angel, reading his first novels will clarify some questions, as thematic resources used a lot on these works are the answer to the seemingly lost ends in that later book. All in all, very good works from the author considering the public they are intended to reach.
- After reading The Shadow of the Wind and El Principe de la Niebla, both of which I loved, I wasn't impressed with this novel. There's a quality to the writing (or perhaps a lack thereof) that doesn't make it involving and I found myself not caring much for the characters. There are elements of gothic novel here, but the psychological stimulus for horror is unconvincing and so the supernatural element falls flat. Although I wouldn't regret reading it, the novel didn't leave much of an impression and I'm convinced that in a few months I will forget that I read it.
- As the author writes in his introduction, "my books are considered to be for young readers, but I would hope they can be enjoyed by those from 9 to 90."
Since I'm 65, not quite 90 yet, but I found the story enchanting and easily readable by an upper-level beginner in Spanish.
I would highly recommend it for someone looking for their first "real reading experience" in the wonderful Spanish language. - Not his best book, but he is a good read in Spanish, and it is more of a gothic style, more for young adults. I am a writer also, and a couple of his earlier books were really excellent. But trying to build on the same characters more than once of twice is tough to do.

La historia es muy pobre y floja no hace sentido - Toda la novela te hace que no te despegues ni un minuto de su lectura, es un misterio constante y todavia casi al final de la historia, te acabas de dar cuenta de secretos de los personajes principales. Emocionante, facil vocabulario y sentimental. Recomiendo El Palacio de la Medianoche totalmente, a cualquier persona que le gusten las novelas de misterio y suspenso. Cada obra de Zafon que leo me gusta cada vez mas sus libros.
- Amo todos los trabajos de Zafón, este no es la excepción a pesar de que el final no es lo que deseada si no el que la historia demandaba.
- Interesante y facil de leer.
